Recurring transactions

A salary every month, rent, subscriptions, your internet bill — transactions that repeat on a clear interval. Recurring transactions free you from entering them by hand: set the schedule once, and Svodly creates the transactions on their dates itself.

In the transaction window there is a “Repeat” field: choose “Every month” (or another frequency), and the transaction becomes recurring, repeating on the schedule.
On the phone, in a new transaction open “Repeat” → frequency “Month”: the next repeat dates are shown right away.

Create a recurring transaction

  1. Create a new transaction (+) — an expense or income — and fill in the amount, account and category as usual.
  2. Open the “Repeat” field and choose a frequency: Every day, Every week, Every month, Every year — or “Custom schedule…” for fine-tuning.
  3. For a custom schedule, tap “Set up schedule” and define: the frequency and the “every N” step, the days of the week (for weekly), the day of the month or “last day” (for monthly), and the ending — “Forever”, “Until a date” or “Number of repeats”. The next dates are shown right under the settings.
  4. Save the transaction — it becomes the first in the series.
The “Repeat” field is available in a personal book for expenses and income. Transfers don't have it, and in a business book the role of “expected payments” is played by settlements, so the field isn't shown there.

How transactions are created

Svodly creates the transactions in a series automatically on their dates. Generation is “catch-up”: transactions missed while the app was closed are created when the app starts, when the book is opened and after syncing. There are no separate notifications — a ready transaction simply appears in the journal.

Managing a series

There's no separate screen with a list of templates — recurring transactions live in the shared “Transactions” journal. Open any transaction in a series to:

Transactions that have already been created stay in place when a series is stopped. Handy, for example, for raising the amount when rent is indexed, via “this and the following”.

Editing a series with a scope choice, skipping a repeat and stopping are for now available on desktop and the web. On mobile you can create a recurring transaction, but manage the series on a computer or in a browser.

Floating amounts

For payments with a variable amount (an electricity bill, say), set the series for a regular date and edit the specific transaction after the fact: open the created record and change the amount with the scope “only this one”. If there was no payment this month — skip the repeat.

Recurring transactions don't move money at the bank — they only create records in your Svodly book. The actual payment goes through your bank, the Faster Payments System (SBP) or your provider's app. Svodly merely records the fact.
