Transactions

Any movement of money is a transaction. There are three types: expense (minus from an account), income (plus to an account), transfer (from one account to another within a book or between books).

Add a transaction

  1. Tap + in the top bar or the hotkey N.
  2. Choose the type: expense, income or transfer.
  3. Enter the amount, date and account. The date defaults to today.
  4. Choose a category from the list or start typing a name — the hints will narrow down.
  5. Optional: counterparty, note, attachment.
  6. Save — Enter or the “Done” button.
Adding an expense: “+ Transaction” → amount → choosing a category and a counterparty → “Save”. The new entry appears in the list right away.
Adding an expense on the phone: the “+” button in the center of the tab bar → a bottom sheet with amount, category and counterparty → “Save”.

All fields except amount, account and category are optional. If you're in a hurry — three required fields, and the transaction is already saved.

On the phone the main way to enter is the big + button in the center of the bottom tab bar. A bottom sheet opens with the same fields, and the focus is right in the amount field.

Expense or income — that's obvious

Expense — money left the account (bought, paid, spent). Income — money arrived in the account (salary, sale, refund). You enter the amount sign in Svodly without minuses: the transaction type sets the direction.

Transfer — the money stayed with you

Withdrew cash from a card, topped up a deposit, paid off a credit card — these are transfers. A transfer doesn't affect “income” and “expense” in analytics: you don't get richer or poorer, you just move money around.

A transfer has two sides: “From” and “To”. If the currencies differ, a rate block appears with three fields — debit, rate and credit: fill in any two, the third is computed automatically. Below the block the rate is shown both ways (1 ₽ = 0.01 $ / 1 $ = 100 ₽).

Attachments

You can attach a file to any transaction — a photo of a receipt, a screenshot of a confirmation, a PDF of a contract. On mobile — from the gallery or with the camera.

A cash receipt is easier to scan than to photograph: on the phone, point the camera at the QR code, and Svodly will pull the items of the purchase and the seller from the FNS, filling in the transaction automatically. See “FNS receipt scanner”.
  1. In the transaction window — the Attach button.
  2. Choose a file (on the phone — from the gallery or take a photo).
  3. The attachment opens with a tap from the transaction card.
For now the file itself is stored locally on the device, and only the attachment's metadata (name, type, which transaction it's linked to) syncs between devices. Full sync of attached files between devices is planned as a paid option.

Note

A simple text field — a couple of words about the context. “For Mom's birthday”, “Business trip to Samara”, “Returning the change”. The note isn't used in reports, but it is in search and filters.

List and calendar

On the Transactions tab — all your movements of money. On desktop and on the web the screen has two views, switchable in the header: “List” (a table with sortable columns and pagination) and “Calendar” (a heat map of spending by day). The chosen view is remembered separately for personal and business books. On mobile — a list grouped by day. At the top of both views — search and filters.

Search

Search looks across amount, date, category, counterparty and note all at once. Queries can be combined: “Magnit 1200” will find transactions at Magnit for roughly 1200 rubles.

Filters

A saved set of filters can be opened with a bookmark — it lives in the URL.

Calendar

The “Calendar” view lays out spending as a heat map by day: the darker the cell, the more was spent that day. The layout adapts to the chosen filter period — day, week and “30 days” are shown as day tiles, a month as a month grid, and a quarter and a year as mini-calendars (in the yearly view a month's cell is colored by net: green for a plus, sand for a minus). Future days are hatched; transfers between accounts don't appear in the heat map.

The calendar helps you notice “expensive” days and the seasonality of spending. This is a view for desktop and the web; on mobile, transactions are shown as a list grouped by day.

The “List ↔ Calendar” toggle on “Transactions”: a heat map by day — the darker the cell, the more spending; the layout adapts to the period (week, month, year).
On the phone, transactions are shown as a list by day — the calendar view is available on desktop and on the web.

Editing

Open a transaction by clicking it in the list. All fields are editable: amount, account, date, category, counterparty, note, attachments. Changes take effect immediately, the account balance is recalculated in real time.

You can duplicate a transaction — the “Create a copy” button in the menu. Handy for recurring payments backdated.

Clicking a transaction opens the “Transaction card”: amount, type, category, counterparty, account, date, note and attachments — all fields editable; at the bottom, “Delete” and “Save”.
On the phone, tapping a transaction opens “Edit transaction” with the same fields and a “Delete transaction” button.
On the phone, tapping a transaction opens “Edit transaction” with the same fields and a “Delete transaction” button.

Deletion

To delete a transaction — the “Delete” button in its window. Confirmation is required once.

If you accidentally deleted a transaction you need — you can bring it back from the import history: every significant action (import, bulk edit, deletion) is saved as a separate “batch” and is rolled back with a single button. See “Import & export” → “Rolling back a batch”.
